At the start, Tyler was fantastic and providing updates, keeping me in the loop, providing advice and information for my first assignment. As the assignment went on, the only issue I had was any topic about asking for more compensation and the agreement with my preceptor bonus. In terms of asking for more compensation, I felt his frustration about the question even though I was encouraged to reach out to him about anything. I felt like I honestly didn’t have a safe relationship with him at that point because it felt like I crossed the line and that I had asked something ridiculous. In terms of the preceptor bonus, I had asked multiple times about how it would be paid out and what it would be estimated, but I was met with round-a-bout answers of that it needed to be cleared with the director and to keep track of my hours. When I was given the green light to continue precepting, I had a conversation with the director about the pay and we agreed an amount over the phone. Even though I had taken essentially taken a $340 loss (based on the facility’s hourly preceptor pay), I stayed cordial and agreed to what was offered. In the end, I was underpaid the amount given despite what was promised. I would ask if this were to happen again, I would suggest having the agreed compensation on paper, and communicating the amount capped since I was explained that only a certain amount can be approved and that the company “would be taking a hit” after the fact. Lastly, Tyler’s unprofessional behavior ultimately made me switch to another agency indefinitely. When I communicated that I had taken an assignment from another agency, I was met with passive aggressive and irritated texts from him and it really changed my entire view of Totalmed. He handled the news with an unprofessional attitude and I was taken aback to how comfortable he was doing it. Circling back to conversations about asking for increased financial compensation with Tyler, I was essentially scolded for not reaching out to him sooner in terms of matching the pay. Even though there was resistance from previous conversations we’ve had about the topic of pay, I was blamed for what I could have done. Even with the conversation we had about how he would “try to match” me, it was a stark difference seeing the agency I am currently with not hesitate to match and advocate my interests. If I were to suggest how this could have been better, I wish that Tyler’s focus on advocating for his travelers to be more honest, not vague, and for him to be more receptive, rather than constantly using irritated/confused and condescending language, as if I am asking something otherworldly, especially knowing that this was my first assignment.

About Rachel Ganzer:

She seemed nice and spoke with intelligence. After our initial introductions or communication waned. I did take a vacation but we didn’t continue communications.
