Urgently hiring for a Grant Accountant in the Akron area!

Job Title: Grant Accountant

Pay: $70,000 to $75,000 Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (Monday - Friday) Start Date: ASAP

Make a difference through your accounting expertise. We are seeking a Grant Accountant to join the team in the Akron, OH area to play an important role in supporting the financial operations behind a mission-driven nonprofit organization.

This position is responsible for overseeing multiple grant-funded programs and maintaining accurate financial records while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local funding requirements. Your financial expertise will help support programs focused on recovery, rehabilitation, and greater independence for individuals and families.  

What You'll Do As a Grant Accountant, you will be responsible for: 
  • Oversee financial activity for a grant portfolio valued at approximately $10 million, spanning mental health organizations as well as state, federal, and local funding sources.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of grant draw requests, ensuring funding is obtained accurately and within required timelines.
  • Review grant-related transactions and documentation to ensure adherence to applicable funding regulations, including SEFA requirements.
  • Compile and review Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) information and provide documentation and support during external audits.
  • Partner with management and independent auditors on month-end close activities, reconciliations, and financial review processes.
  • Track expenditures and activity across multiple grants and contracts while maintaining complete and well-organized supporting documentation.

What You'll Bring The ideal candidate for this role will have:
  • Four-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or a comparable business-related discipline.
  • Bring approximately 3–5 years of professional accounting or financial experience; exposure to grant accounting is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with federal grant funding and a solid understanding of SEFA reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; experience with Grantseeker Pro is an added advantage.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of assignments independently while also collaborating effectively with a broader team.
  • Background in public accounting or experience managing government-funded grants is highly valued.

Location & Schedule

This position is on-site in the Akron area offering a standard full-time schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with no overtime required.
