Part-Time Mill Worker.
As a Part-Time Mill Worker you will be responsible for:
- Dryer Feeder
- Picking up individual sheets of veneer with one or both hands, and moving them forward several inches so that they can be picked up by the rollers of the veneer dryer equipment
- Ensure proper amount of veneer sheets are fed with each dryer cycle
- Assist co-workers or Maintenance personnel in basic maintenance procedures or fixing dryer plug-ups
- Press Helper
- Lay-up plywood according to APA and mill standards
- Perform daily pre-inspections of equipment, completing required paperwork and reporting any maintenance issues immediately
- Keep the immediate work area free of wood debris and keep sticker racks organized
- Cleanup will be done on a continual basis to ensure a clean, organized and safe work environment
- Make tickets and staple onto units with correct date, time, and product
- Polyline Operator
- Patch panels using special putty and epoxy to upgrade quality of plywood panels
- Use of a putty knife, panel knife and use of special spreading techniques
- Use of a router to remove defects to be later filled in with putty and/or epoxy
- Use of poly gun to fill all defects with poly
- Green End Clean Up
- Ensure that the plant site is kept clean and safe
- Keep up with production levels, monitoring quality and working safely
- Identify and save usable pieces of veneer
- Feed unusable broken boards into the chipper
- Assist in clearing jam ups in conveyor systems. This may involve climbing ladders.
- Report all broken machinery and oil leaks to maintenance immediately
- Dryer Grader
- Dryer Grader will complete a visual inspection of veneer sheets and accurate grading of veneer by referring to the plant’s dry veneer grade spec sheet.
- Grading based on the number and size of knots, splits, and open defects. Responsible for understanding and applying veneer grade spec information in the grading process.
- Pull dry veneer sheets from the dryer onto a dry veneer conveyor and into proper carts according to grade.
- Grader is required to pull anywhere from 6-20 veneer sheets a minute into proper-grade carts.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
- Attention to detail
- Must be able to stand throughout shift
- Bending, lifting & stacking throughout shift
- Prior mill work experience preferred but not required
