Principle Epic Data Science Analyst

Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced Principal Epic Data Science Analyst to join our team on a 12-month contract. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare data, specifically with Epic systems, and possess advanced skills in data science, machine learning, and statistical analysis. This role involves performing detailed analysis of large, complex healthcare datasets to uncover insights that can impact patient health and support clinical decision-making. Location:  Remote Duration: 12 months Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze large heterogeneous healthcare datasets, with a focus on Epic data from inpatient and outpatient sources.
  • Identify data gaps and transformations between Epic and longitudinal patient records, understanding the logic behind data transformations.
  • Develop predictive and prescriptive models utilizing advanced statistical, machine learning, and data mining techniques.
  • Collaborate with clinical, IT, and data teams to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and relevance for analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in data science methodologies and best practices.
  • Translate complex data findings into actionable insights for healthcare operations and clinical decision support.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional or research experience in data science, with a Master's degree in a relevant field (engineering, mathematics, computer science, health science, or related).
  • Deep expertise in Epic data, with direct experience working with inpatient and outpatient data.
  • Epic certifications and/or experience with Epic or Epic-approved implementations preferred.
  • Strong understanding of clinical decision-making processes and data sources within Epic.
  • Proven ability to detect data transformations and understand underlying logic.
  • Proficiency with scientific computing, data management packages, and data exploration tools.
  • Experience developing predictive/prescriptive models on large datasets.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and project management skills.
  • Preferred: PhD in a relevant field with 3+ years of experience, or equivalent experience with demonstrated leadership in data science.
Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards, compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Ability to communicate technical insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience consulting at an organizational or enterprise level.
