Helpmates is seeking a Licensed Customs Broker – Freight Forwarding for a full-time, in-office position based in Buena Park, CA. We’re looking for a responsible and experienced professional to oversee and support import/export compliance, with a focus on both compliance monitoring and policy development.
Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience
Full-Time | Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)
JOB DUTIES:
- Maintain knowledge of applicable international trade laws and regulations related to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Department of Commerce (BIS), and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Support in resolving international trade issues resulting from import and export activities.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures to support import and export compliance requirements.
- Track and assess changing legal requirements and policy trends and their impact on the organization’s operations, policies, practices, and procedures.
- Support and monitor businesses to ensure both import and export transactions are accurately reported through Automated Commercial Environment.
- Develop a transparent organization-wide system for responding to compliance matters.
- Provide guidance and ensure that the organization understands and meets all compliance requirements.
- Conduct appropriate meetings and provide training regarding corporate compliance.
- Develop, direct, and revise policy and procedures to promote and maintain compliance standards within the company.
- Identify non-compliant activity and manage resolution, including the development of corrective action plans with involved departments.
- Ensure proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required.
- Conduct internal audits as needed and prepare reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs brokerage and international freight forwarding.
- Licensed U.S. Customs Broker (required).
- College degree (required).
- Strong understanding of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and other relevant import/export laws.
- Experience working with CargoWise or similar compliance software.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Education
Benefits Overview:
- Medical Plan: PPO with $0 deductible; $1,000 out-of-pocket max per individual and $3,000 for family.
- Vacation: 80 hours per year after probation. After 2 years, you earn an additional 8 hours each year, up to a maximum of 120 hours. Accrual cap is 1.5x your annual allotment.
- Personal Time: 16 hours per year for full-time employees.
- Wedding Leave: 3 days off available before or after your wedding.
