Helpmates is currently seeking a Safety Coordinator for a reputable company located in Santa Fe Springs, CA. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in workplace safety, compliance, and employee training.
Pay Rate: $25.00 - $35.00/hour.
Schedule: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Location: Santa Fe Springs
Duration: Temp-to-hire
Job duties:
Lead the safety committee and coordinate all related activities, including monthly and quarterly meetings
Monitor workplace safety conditions, identify issues, recommend improvements, and ensure changes are made
Keep records for safety programs such as training logs, inspection reports, and audits
Investigate near-misses, accidents, and injuries to find root causes
Provide annual safety and environmental training as required by law
Create and update safety programs and policies (e.g., IIPP, hazard communication, PPE, chemical safety, emergency plans, etc.)
Assist management with implementing safety plans
Respond to emergencies, accidents, and alarms as needed
Follow and enforce Maintenance Safety Protocols (like Lockout/Tagout)
Manage and restock all safety suppliesComplete and manage all required EHS reports for federal, state, and city agencies
Oversee wastewater and air emissions compliance
Conduct safety audits and take necessary samples and measurements
Inspect hazardous waste storage areas and ensure proper disposal
Maintain and improve EHS documentation, communication, and recordkeeping
Track and organize maintenance work requests
Recommend solutions to prevent recurring equipment issues
Request quotes from contractors for equipment and facility repairs
Order parts and supplies for repairs
Report maintenance performance (KPIs) to upper management
Requirements:
5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
Mechanical maintenance experience or support (2+ years) is a plus
Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards (CAL-OSHA, CAL-EPA, DOT, NFPA)
Experience handling hazardous waste
Project management, planning, and team coordination skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Able to use power and hand tools safely
Works well under deadlines and time constraints
Familiar with safety procedures like LOTO, welding safety, PPE use, etc.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with maintenance databases is a plus
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience may be accepted instead, based on the hiring manager’s discretion.
