Hours: Monday–Friday Full Time Start Date: ASAPWe are seeking a Human Resources Generalist for a temporary position for our client, a mission-driven organization located in Bar Harbor, Maine. The HR Generalist will provide centralized support across various human resources functions, acting as the first point of contact for employees and managers on HR-related policies, procedures, and inquiries. The HR Generalist will ensure consistency, compliance, and efficiency across HR service areas such as employee relations, onboarding/offboarding, benefits, leave management, HRIS support, and regulatory compliance. This is a temporary position covering a leave of absence—a great opportunity to get your foot in the door with a respected employer.
As a Human Resources Generalist, you will be responsible for:
Provide timely and accurate responses to employee and manager questions about HR policies, systems, and procedures
Handle and document general employee relations matters, including investigations and coaching, ensuring consistent application of policy
Serve as a liaison between employees and Centers of Excellence for benefits, compensation, leave, and training
Coordinate onboarding and offboarding activities in line with established protocols
Ensure HR operations comply with applicable employment laws and internal standards
Maintain accurate documentation and support audits related to personnel records
Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal HR knowledgebase content
Participate in special projects that enhance HR operations and service delivery
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; or a high school diploma with extensive relevant experience
3–5 years of HR generalist, shared services, or equivalent experience
Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws
Familiarity with HRIS platforms and case management tools
Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills
Experience with process improvement or procedure documentation preferred
Ability to work effectively across departments and locations
