Astute’s Renewables team is partnering with an IDNO business committed to technical excellence and industry leadership to recruit a Design Manager who is happy to commute to Derby on occasion for team meetings.   The strategically important Design Manager role comes with a salary of £60,000- £82,000, pension and flexible working. Responsibilities and duties Reporting to the IDNO leadership team, you will:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain technical processes for asset adoption and network operations, ensuring compliance with Ofgem regulations and industry standards.
  • Define and manage the IDNO’s G81 design standards, EHV, and 132kV specifications, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Oversee the design function, collaborating with ICPs, DNOs, and key stakeholders to meet performance standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ICPs, developers, consultants, and industry partners to ensure seamless network integration and efficient design approvals.
  • Actively engage with relevant industry groups, representing the company and contributing to the evolution of IDNOs and energy distribution.
  • Work with the leadership team to create and implement robust standard operating procedures to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the business.
Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:
  • A Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering (or an equivalent qualification with relevant experience).
  • Strong experience in power network design across 11kV to 132kV networks.
  • Understanding of technical and regulatory standards for network design, construction, and operation.
  • Previous experience in network modelling and design software (e.g., WinDEBUT, VisNet Design, IPSA, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Knowledge of health & safety laws in the electricity distribution sector.
