Electrical Engineer

Astutes Power Team are working with a leading waste to energy company on a brand-new Engineering position working across two of the UK’s largest Energy from Waste power stations. As the Electrical HV Engineer you will be responsible for looking after all electrical assets on both stations ensuring all work is in compliance with best practices, regulatory requirements and the system operator (UK Power Networks). This position is offered on a three year Fixed Term Contract or Inside IR35 contractor engagement.                           Responsibilities and duties: As the Electrical Engineer you will be:
  • Leading all electrical works on the existing Energy from Waste plant including reactive & preventative maintenance, outage planning and long term asset planning.
  • Support the project team with all electrical queries including technical specification on the new build project.
  • Support installation of a new 132kv electrical connection from substation to plant.
  • Coordinate across operation & maintenance teams to maintain plant availability.
  • Managing sub-contractors and involved with negotiation, performance review and management.
  • Carrying out site surveys to identify HV electrical system requirements including preparing estimations & quotations for work.
  • Produce tender documents and supporting in the evaluation of tenders / bids.
  • Involved with producing electrical designs for project work, ensuring compliance with HSE requirements and legislation.
    Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:
  • A relevant engineering qualification at degree/HND level, preferably in a mechanical discipline. HNC level will be considered along with extensive experience
  • At least ten years of industry experience in the power generation sector
  • High Voltage qualifications / authorisations
    Personal skills The Electrical Engineer role would suit someone who is:
  • Experienced in the design, installation & management of electrical equipment typically found on a process engineering plant.
  • Fully conversant in power & distribution systems, lighting design, fire alarm design, security & CCTV systems, HSE legislation and design calculation software.
  • Familiar with BS EN ISO 9001
