Project: This role is specifically for TMF: The UK Tails Management Facility. This is a facility in Capenhurst, Chester UK, operated by Urenco ChemPlants Limited. It processes depleted uranium hexafluoride, also known as "tails," from Urenco's European enrichment facilities. The facility converts these tails into a lower-hazard form, uranium oxide for long-term storage or potential future reuse. Senior Architectural Technician Warrington (preference) Role Summary An exciting opportunity to join the Civil, Structural and Architectural (CS&A) team within Cavendish Nuclear, the UK’s leading supplier to the nuclear industry and a growing global force. The breadth of our expertise means we are able to offer unrivalled experience and specialist knowledge across all aspects of the nuclear life cycle, from design and build, through operations and maintenance, to decommissioning, waste management and remediation. You will form a leading role within a dynamic design team undertaking traditional, bespoke and innovative designs supporting the full suite of architectural deliverables for nuclear decommissioning and nuclear new build projects, as well as support to operating nuclear sites. The projects you undertake will principally be in relation to the design and detail of buildings and spatial layout associated with state-of-the-art mechanical handling equipment and associated process and electrical systems, but can also involve stand-alone architectural tasks for a range of sectors. There may be requirements to visit sites for architectural inspections and surveys, and will be undertaken primarily for sites across UK with some projects based internationally. You will provide technical guidance and support to projects, plus support and mentor other members of the CS&A team. Due to our vast experience within the nuclear industry, we are often trusted to undertake projects through the entire project lifecycle, and you will therefore have an opportunity to be involved in projects from initial feasibility and concept stage to engineering and detailed design, overseeing construction right through to eventual decommissioning. This is particularly unique within a consultancy environment and what makes our projects and work so rewarding. Responsibilities:
  • Delivering Nuclear design work, inspections and construction site support on projects for a range of public and private sector clients within the UK and overseas. Work encompasses the full lifecycle of a project.
  • Supporting the preparation of designs for buildings of varying complexity, including production of relevant models and drawings using Autodesk products, particularly Revit and AutoCAD, throughout the various stages of the design process.
  • Working with integrated multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high profile projects. Confident with working in a collaborative environment and utilising federated models to ensure a coordinated and integrated architectural design.
  • Provide technical support to other members of the team.
  • Ensure all work to be carried out with a positive attitude toward safety within the design, the office environment and during the construction phase.
  • Assisting and mentoring team members to promote their technical and professional development.
  • Provide support in the solution of problems that may arise during the design, fabrication, construction, installation, commissioning and decommissioning phases.
  • As specified by the Technical Lead on projects, provide progress updates and accurately report the estimate to complete assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for ensuring, as far as possible, the correctness of their own work and for checking other relevant output.
  • Must be a self-starter who is able to confidently produce quality outputs with autonomy, minimal supervision, and technical leadership to enhance the architectural capability of the team.
  • Understand and support the process for developing and implementing BIM Level 2 compliant systems and processes.
  • A good understanding of current design codes including Building Regulations and the application of these within building design.
  • Familiarity and experience with the typical suite of architectural deliverables, including but not limited to the production of GA layouts, sections, elevations, fire strategy drawings, wall type drawings, setting-out drawings, schedules, finishes, specifications, envelope details, waterproofing details, firestopping and insulation, planning drawings etc.
Qualification Requirements:
  • HNC/HND qualified in Architectural Technology or a related subject. 5+ years’ experience in the Architectural delivery of complex and highly serviced buildings.
  • Preference to be working towards or achieved CIAT membership or chartership.
Experience Required:
  • Significant and proven experience in the design and detailing of buildings and associated architectural elements.
  • It would be advantageous, but not necessary, to have previous experience within the nuclear industry. Experience and understanding of multi-discipline design within a BIM environment.
  • Conversant with Autodesk products with a minimum of 2 years project experience on Revit and Navisworks.
Location:
  • Although this is a location flexible position, the base location for this project role is Birchwood in Warrington, with regular office attendance required.
