Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading principal contractor in the Energy from Waste sector to recruit a Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer on a contract basis for its West Midlands site from September 2026.
The Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer role comes with a day rate of £600.
Key skills required for the Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer role

Take ownership of boiler commissioning activities, ensuring delivery in line with project requirements, contractual obligations, and HSEQ standards.

Review, implement, and enforce HSEQ requirements during commissioning, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with RAMS, site standards, and applicable legislation

Take overall responsibility for commissioning the full boiler package, ensuring all systems are delivered safely, on time, and in line with contractual and technical requirements

Oversee and coordinate commissioning activities to ensure alignment with project contracts, schedules, budgets, and approved standards

Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, OEMs, and external authorities to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality execution of commissioning activities

Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, provide regular progress reports, and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives

Must be degree-qualified Mechanical or Process Engineer with proven experience in the commissioning stages of a Power/EFW plant.

Must have demonstrable experience delivering full boiler package on a large EFW facility.

Must hold an SCC (Safety Contractors Certificate) or equivalent safety qualification.

Hands-on experience with LOTO (Lock Out/Tag Out) and PTW systems in commissioning environments.
