The Civil/Structural Engineer role is a key position in the development of the Hinkley Point C project throughout its design and construction phase and comes with a salary of up to £50,000 dependant on experience.   • Familiarity with structural software such as TEKLA.

    What's the role?

     

    The Commissioning engineer will carry out instructions as directed by the Commissioning manager / team leader to deliver electrical & mechanical works to the agreed quality, timescales & Safety. (Battery Charger & Battery Replacement Works) . You will work closely with the SAP’s and other commissioning engineers to commission HV & LV Apparatus up to 132kV.

     

    This role will predominantly cover the South East of England patch including but not limited to, Chichester, Portsmouth,Fareham, Fleet,Southampton,Winchester areas.

     

     

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     

    • Work in a team, ensuring that working environment and work practices meet the requirements of the Health & Safety Legislation, conforms to the project Health & Safety Plan and meets KUS standards.
    • Through discussion with the site team plan and execute all tasks identified in the works program.
    • Able to decipher construction drawings to verify material lists and use their experience to plan the task in hand including assisting in producing the RAMS for the activities.
    • Ensure the work carried out is as per the construction drawings with any changes documented and agreed before implementation.
    • Verify and document Temporary Works are installed as per the design.
    • Complete QA documentation for all completed works.
    • Act upon unsafe acts or conditions when observed or when reporting to the post holder.
    • Carry out the tasks in line with the works program, in a diligent manner, ensuring the work is done in an efficient, cost effective, and professional like manner producing work of high quality
    • Attend training courses necessary for development of the skills needed to carry out the tasks performed by the work group and learn how to behave safely.
    • Ensure all plant / tool inspections are carried out before use with all defects documented and reported through the correct channels.
    • Ensure materials are used economically and unused materials are returned to stores, arrange for all scrap materials to be removed from site in a safe manner at the end of the each job.
    • Monitor the performance of the team, record quantity of work carried out and report shortfalls outside of his/her control to Line Manager
    • Carryout Safety Inspection as laid down in the Contract Specific Health and Safety Plan
    • Attend work for all rostered shifts and overtime turns 
    • It is essential that the post holder holds a full driving licence as driving in a responsible manner will be an important part of the role
    • Take direction from line manager in carrying out ad hoc projects.

     

    What we’re looking for:

    • HNC or above in electrical engineering is essential
    • Ability to Commission HV & LV Apparatus up to 132kV
    • The ability to study technical scopes and schematics and produce detailed commissioning plans and cable/core schedules. 
    • The ability to generate test documents and be familiar with Omicron Test Universe software as well as other relay manufacturer software.
    • SSE Authorisations would be advantageous, however can be achieved through on site training
    • Testing of numerical relays which include: o Siprotec o MiCOM o Siemens 7SR series o SuperTapp SG o SEL logic relays o Toshiba GRL, GRZ series

  • 3+ years Network diagnostics & Remote communications experience, MPAN setup, metering, and SCADA installation
  • 3+ years LV/HV Commissioning to G99, G5/4, P28 knowledge of system and DNO interface.
  • Familiarity with Solar PV mounting systems, Civil works, Earthing Systems - including review of Construction related QAQC documentation.
