Produce any other reports as requested by the Project Manager. Ensure that the Company Policy and Procedures Manual is adhered to for all defined activities including CDM, design risk assessment, drawing registration, filing, change control and specification. Co-operating with others both internally and externally to promote and achieve the objectives of the Quality Management Plan. Undertake any other duties that could reasonably be expected of a senior member of staff. Working within the engineering team appointed, consisting of other Project Engineers, Project Designers, Structural Engineers (internal or external) and others. Identifying with other members of staff the list of QA documents required for the project and ensuring they are correctly prepared, completed, distributed and filed. Supporting the appointed Project Manager and/ or Lead Project Engineer in all QA aspect, including progress meetings and construction. To ensure information both incoming and outgoing is filed, and the necessary transmittals produced and filed. To assist with elements of proposals work where previous experience or knowledge is relevant. Working and communicating as part of a cohesive team. Mentoring junior and/ or less experienced team members. Astute’s EPC Power team is partnering with a leading EPC Contractor within the UK Power Industry to recruit one Electrical Commissioning Engineer on an 6 month contract basis on the Stewartby, Bedfordshire site. 

 

The Electrical Commissioning Engineer role comes with a day rate of £450.00 to £500.00 per day. 

 

 

Key skills and responsibilities: 

• Leading and executing electrical commissioning activities for a gas power project in UK, until successful handover to the customer. The scope of activities will be: Experienced with NG TP106 Process Framework thereby ensuring commissioning is conducted with a level of governance and associated audit trail.
• Hands-on commissioning of electrical components and systems such as, transformers, medium/low voltage switchgears, DC systems, rectifiers, inverters, motorized valves, instruments etc. Fully competent at using Primary & Secondary Injection test set equipment.
• Carrying out testing on electrical systems and equipment, as well as system optimization and troubleshooting and filling-in the respective commissioning documentation and protocols
• Cooperation with internal team members, guidance and coordination of external partners and sub-contractors, interacting with customers.
• Managing and leading the team of LV/MV/HV electrical engineers, electrical supervisors, technicians, etc. Participate in the Plan of the Day meeting daily providing resourceful inputs on the work progress.
• Ensure all the activities conducted on site follow the correct process in accordance with project requirements and in strict compliance with all EHS requirements.
• Coordination of all necessary activities with all involved parties, such as commissioning team, erection team and sub-contractors
• Participation in the walk-downs for Turnover from construction to commissioning, identifying open items that prevent system start-up.
• Report to the Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer and the Commissioning Manager on each specific site.
• At least 7 years working experience in power stations Electrical (MV/LV and I&C) Commissioning activities with demonstrable experience in a leading role in projects of similar relevance.
• BEng /HND in Electrical engineering
• Strong team spirit, working with an international team and other cultures.

•  Produce & Review Competency matrix: Where applicable undertake suitable pre-qualification exercise and advise Project Engineering Manager in respect of project competency status. • Review sub-contractor competency: Develop & review documentation relating to sub-contract design organisations capability, knowledge, skills and experience and make recommendations on CDM compliance. • Keep updated the project design risk register: The register will be the primary tool to manage CDM compliance throughout the project duration and will, once developed form a monthly deliverable from all designers. • Develop Designer CDM gateway review process: Undertake assessments arising from all design stakeholders and manage/coordinate H&S information as applicable. Designer residual risk will feed into the Project Risk Register. • H&S Files: Develop and manage the project H&S file strategy. The SAP role comes with a day rate of £600.00.             Key skills  

• Implement procedures to ensure Safety from the System and from the test equipment as dictated by the test programme and consulting, as necessary, with Control Persons of other Systems to agree any actions which may be required to maintain Safety from the System.
• Correctly implementing specified procedures for releasing Plant and Apparatus for work or testing and for ensuring that all safety precautions which achieve Safety from the System are in place.
• Obtain the agreement of the Control Person to the release of Plant and Apparatus.
• Confirm through the Control Person that safety precautions at remote locations are complete.

Introduction

We are currently recruiting for a Site Chemist to join one of the industry leaders in hazardous waste management solutions across the UK. Working as the Site Chemist, you will be responsible for taking and analysing hazardous waste samples on-site to ensure safe and compliant waste is processed at all times.

The Job

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Assist with the hands-on operation of the hazardous waste site ensuring materials coming onto and off site are consistently safe and compliant to site permits and environmental regulations.
• Assist with compiling lists of wastes to be transferred off site to third party disposal points. Liaising with other staff to ensure correct routing of wastes.
• Assist with non- conformance procedures and sample processing within the site laboratory for incoming waste streams.
• Providing services to customers to enable wastes to be assessed, priced and collected
• Utilise appropriate systems to manage non- compliances.
• Use of FLT/Dump Truck and other mobile plant as required
• Assist with the daily/weekly plan for the operational areas and laboratory, adapt to the unplanned and unexpected to deliver targets, KPI’s and other requirements.
• Ensure house-keeping requirements and continuous improvement programmes are supported both directly and through the plant team.
• Partake in improvement of process, contributing to micro project development.
• Undertake area administration activity including Chemist Check sheets, process sheets, stock sheets, production records, etc.

The Candidate

To be considered for this position, candidates are expected to have an appropriate chemistry qualification to degree level as well as experience handling a diverse range of chemical compounds including understanding of inter-reactions.

Some knowledge of hazardous waste or industrial chemistry would be beneficial as well as previous experience working in a site-based role or in an industrial hands-on environment. This role would suit someone looking to further their career within the chemical sector and an interest in moving into the waste management industry. A NEBOSH certificate or IOSH H&S qualification would also be beneficial.
