Mechanical Technician

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading Energy from Waste company to recruit a Mechanical Technician for its site in near Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.      The Mechanical Technician role comes with a starting salary of up to £48,000 + benefits.    If you are an apprentice qualified mechanical engineer, with experience on a heavy industrial site, then submit your CV to apply today.                  Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Technician role Reporting to the Mechanical Team Leader you will:  
  • Conduct preventative and reactive maintenance across mechanical plant systems, including steam turbines, hydraulic systems, and gas engines.
  • Carry out overhauls and repairs on steam valves and associated components.
  • Support and participate in fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical issues.
  • Complete scheduled inspections and performance checks using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental protocols and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Contribute to the preparation and execution of Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), including risk assessments.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and team briefings to promote a safety-first culture.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing reliability and efficiency of plant operations.
  • Assist with shutdowns, installations, and commissioning of mechanical equipment as required.
Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:  
  • Apprentice trained mechanical engineer
  • Technical expertise in at least one of the following: steam valve maintenance, steam turbines, hydraulic systems, or gas engines.
  • Familiarity with Permit to Work systems and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Relevant vocational or technical qualifications (e.g., IOSH, GCSEs/CSEs, or equivalent).
  Personal skills
  • Safety-conscious: Demonstrates a strong commitment to health and safety in all aspects of work.
  • Detail-oriented: Takes a meticulous approach to inspections, maintenance, and reporting.
  • Collaborative: Works well within a team environment and communicates effectively across departments.
