Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with an independent civil and structural engineering consultancy working within the nuclear, utilities, waste water and education sectors to recruit a Principal Civil and Structural Engineer/Technical Director for its Preston site.
The Principal Civil and Structural Engineer/Technical Director role comes with a salary starting from £60,000, enhanced pension and flexible working. The primary purpose of the role is to lead and co-ordinate CS&A design teams from scope to design, ensuring consistent quality and timeliness of output.

Responsibilities and duties:
As the Principal Engineer/Technical Director, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Coordinate design outputs across technical disciplines and ensure timely, budget-compliant delivery of project designs.

Represent WEL in design reviews and oversee production of cost-effective design documents meeting specifications.

Monitor design cost budgets, track changes, and provide cost forecasts to maximize efficiency.

Build relationships with clients and supply chain to promote buildability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Foster a safe work environment, maintain a positive approach, and support continuous improvement and confidentiality efforts.

Lead, coach, and mentor project teams, ensuring efficient civil and structural design delivery within budget and schedule.

Focus on health, safety, well-being, and effective project deliverables while supporting technical leads in the Preston office.

Oversee deliverable approvals, attend design reviews, and promote a thriving, inclusive working environment with strong project management.
Professional qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:
-
Be a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with minimum 10 years experience of running / leading projects.

Have a broad knowledge of steel and concrete structures including water retaining structures to British Standards and Eurocodes.

An understanding or proficiency in the use of software such as STAAD PRO. TEDDS, AutoCAD, Excel is preferred

The Principal CS&A Engineer/Technical Director role would suit someone who has:

Nuclear experience including decommissioning works

A team player with good interpersonal and communication skills with ability to adapt to diverse working environments.
