Astute’s EPC Power team is partnering with a leading Client within the UK Power Industry to recruit a Contracts Manager on an initial 6 months basis for their new build Waste to Energy facility in the Teesside area.
The Contracts Manager comes with a day from £500.00 to £600.00 per day.
Key skills and responsibilities:

To lead and work with the Project Delivery Team in developing and negotiating the EPC

Contract and other ancillary contracts supported by external lawyers. The form of EPC Contract will be based on a flow down form the Authority’s Waste Infrastructure Development Programme (WIDP) form of contract.

Draft the Conditions of Contract and input into the Commercial and Technical Schedules to ensure alignment across all documents.

Advise on and review the security package (PCG, Bonds, Collateral Warranties, Insurances) and ensue that the risk is fully understood and appropriately allocated.

Liaise with all the clients Departments (Capital Projects / Business Development / Legal / Operations / Finance/ Treasury/ Insurance / SHEQS) and ensure that all of the clients requirements have been adequately reflected in the EPC Contract.

Respond to queries from external advisers (Lawyers / Lenders Technical Adviser / Lenders Legal Adviser).

Check full contract documents prior to contract award.

Ensure Company policies, procedures and standards are rigorously applied.

Ensure synergies across the group are maximised in contract management arrangements.

Support the Project Delivery Team in the contract administration of the EPC Contract. A proactive approach is required to ensure that all contractual communication response timeframes are adhered to and that the relevant communications / notifications are being issued.

Work closely with Project Controls and Project Delivery Managers / Representatives on risk management, change or cost control.

Review and draft communications and Notices on behalf of the Project Manager or Representative as may be required.

Prepare documentation and provide advice to support any dispute resolution proceedings.

Lead in the review and maintenance of contractual securities (e.g. review of collateral warranties, insurances, bonds etc.) to ensure continuity of cover and compliance with the contract conditions.

Advise as appropriate on any contractual steps to be taken to avoid or recover from delay or cost escalation that may occur.

Lead in pricing negotiations with EPC Contractors to include indexation mechanisms.

Assist in the preparation of Investment Review Committee (IRC) submissions.

Check Payment Applications and assist in the processing of invoices.

Advise on likely cost recovery as a result of liquidated damages.

Preparation of the final account or similar financial statement or agreement as required by the Project Delivery Team.

Legal qualifications or experience.
-
Relevant chartership.

Familiarity with Project Financing on major infrastructure projects.

Familiarity with the WIDP form of contract and IChemE form of contract.

Experience of representing clients and negotiating major infrastructure contracts from inception through to contract award.

Familiarity with ERF or similar process-based construction projects.
Location, remuneration and timeframe of the Contracts Manager position:
- Home based with occasional travel to and from their site in Teesside.
- £600.00 to £650.00 per day (outside IR35)
- February 2025
