Mechanical Technician

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a Global Power Generator, with assets in the UK and Australasia, to recruit a Mechanical Technician for their Gas Fired Power Station based in the Southeast of England, capable of producing around 732MW of power. The Mechanical Technician role comes with a highly competitive salary, bonus and excellent benefits package. Responsibilities and duties Reporting to the Team Leader you will:  
  • Fault finding, inspecting and maintaining mechanical assets across the power station including pumps, compressors, valves, turbines, pipework etc.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the sites CMMS for maintenance management, safety systems, investigation and performance tools, document control and procedure revision systems.
  • Supervising and directing contractors.
  • Assisting with day-day planning, outage planning, co-ordination and management of contract support organisations.
  • Carry out project work and activities as directed.
  • Ensuring HSE compliance at all times.
Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:  
  • A relevant engineering or technical qualification at level 3 as a minimum (City & Guilds / NVQ)
  • Ideally a ONC / HNC / HND in a Mechanical engineering field
  • IOSH or NEBOSH or similar in Health & Safety
Personal skills The role would suit someone who has:  
  • At least five years operations experience in the power generation or waste/recycling industry. This can include CCGT, coal, CHP, energy from waste or biomass.
  • Significant knowledge of mechanical maintenance gained in the power generation sector – ideally CCGT. Experience in other heavy industry will be considered e.g. chemical, pharmaceutical, steel works, paper mill etc
  • Familiar with regulatory compliance such as LOLER, PUWER & PSSR
  • Excellent IT skills and the ability to use a CMMS
  • Excellent team work and communication skills
  • Proactive attitude towards health & safety
