Astute’s Renewables team is partnering with a leading renewable energy and environmental consultancy with a commitment to professional development and sustainability to recruit for a Principal Power Systems Engineer for its Edinburgh, Glasgow, London or Bristol offices. The Principal Power Systems Engineer role comes with a salary of up to £75,000 plus benefits with flexible hybrid working available.   • Engage with electricity transmission, distribution companies, and the Electricity System Operator in the UK.
  • Apply understanding of the UK Grid Code requirements to generation projects.
  • Conduct detailed power system studies including load flow, short circuit analysis, fault ride through, and EMT using industry standard software.
  • Share knowledge and experience with the team to enhance expertise.
  • Manage and mentor graduates/consultants to develop their skills.
  • Communicate and analyse energy regulatory framework, staying updated on changes and impacts to clients.
  • Develop business relationships with companies and professionals to expand service opportunities.
  • Contribute to "Thought Leadership" initiatives to enhance the company's brand in areas of expertise.
    Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:  
  • A demonstrable background in providing Power Systems Engineering services such as design and modelling.
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or other relevant field of study.
  • A demonstrable understanding of the UK grid code.
  • Ability to use DIgSILENT or similar software is a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrate commercial acumen in the energy industry.
  • Possess a solid working knowledge of the complete lifecycle of the regulatory framework for connecting renewable projects to the grid, encompassing both Transmission and Distribution projects.
  • Experience in dealing with Ofgem would be advantageous.
  • Previous exposure to the Offshore and Onshore renewable energy sector, as well as knowledge of the oil and gas industry, would be considered a plus.
    Personal skills The Principal Power Systems Engineer role would suit someone who:  
  • Possess experience in, or be willing to learn, financial project management, ensuring projects meet strict timelines and budgets.
  • Exhibit commercial awareness of the energy industry, including market trends and key players
